Research Support Assistant (History and Cultural related – HKSAR)

  • Degree holder, major in History or related discipline
  • At least 3 year’s full-time working experience in exhibition and research field, among which at least 2 years’ experiences with local museums, galleries, archives, universities, academic institutes or cultural institutes

Job requirements:

  • Degree holder, major in History or related discipline (e.g. Cultural Studies, Museum Studies, China Studies, etc.), or equivalent or above. Degree offered by diploma mills, top-up degree and distance education degree are not accepted
  • Level 2/ Grade E or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSE OR HKCE
  • At least 3 year’s full-time working experience in exhibition and research field, among which at least 2 years’ experiences with local museums, galleries, archives, universities, academic institutes or cultural institutes
  • Working experience can be double-counted if the obtained master’s degree in the discipline specified
  • Possessing good communication skills, showing strong initiative; being courteous; being able to work within a team and work independently
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken Chinese and English
  • Good knowledge in computer applications including Chinese word-processing and using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Responsibilities:

  • Compiling information of suitable artefacts, existing research materials and audio-visual materials which have potentials to be developed into museum programmes for developing into a large-scale display related to Hong Kong’s Japanese Occupation Period in the forthcoming years;
  • To assist in conducting researches, including library research and archival studies, on the military, political, economic and social aspects of Hong Kong’s Japanese Occupation Period for the museum to identify potential historical topics with objects and audio-visual assets
  • To liaise and coordinate with public and private museum, as well as archives and academic institutes, both in Hong Kong and abroad, for identifying maps, photos, videos, illustration graphics and other reference materials for studying their potential for turning into a large –scale display in the long run
  • To conduct market research and assist in identifying suitable exhibits which can be utilized either through loan from collectors and museums, or through procurement from the artefacts markets for substantiating the proposed themes into a large-scale display in the forthcoming years;
  • To perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors
